Air Experience Vouchers: Selling Online

Submitted by Mathew Waters on

Do you want to sell air experience flights online? Perhaps you already do, but it isn't fully automated.

UPDATE, 20 Jan 2020: The work mentioned later is now complete, meaning you can sell your own flying school vouchers online straight from your website!

Some schools sell vouchers online, but the fulfilment process is hard work. For example, perhaps you print and post vouchers manually. All the costs of stamps, paper and ink all add up, not to mention your time travelling back and forth to the Post Office. Nowadays, most people have access to a printer so can print vouchers themselves. Even if they don't, they probably know someone who does, or of course they could still phone and ask you to print it for them!

We currently offer an integration with Squarespace which allows for vouchers to be sold online through your own website, and for vouchers to be created in your booking system and emailed to your customers. Customers can then customise the voucher, filling in details such as the recipient's name, and a personal message. As an example, Kemble Flying Club vouchers look something like this:

We want to offer this feature to more schools, and many do not use Squarespace to run their websites. So we plan to integrate with Stripe Payments, which will allow anyone to take money from selling vouchers online.

About Stripe

Stripe logoMillions of businesses now take online payments using Stripe, including large companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Spotify.

By creating an account with Stripe, you can collect online payments yourself. Stripe fees are the lowest we could find. At the time of writing, if your business and customer is based in UK, Stripe charge a low fee of £0.20 + 1.4%. We think this compares well with the fees charged for using credit card terminals.

In the future, we plan on offering a revised voucher sales system which you can integrate with your own website - whoever hosts it - and the days of printing and posting vouchers will be over!

Stripe collect the money from card sales, but also accept other payment methods, such as Apple Pay. The funds (minus the fees for the service) are deposited into your linked bank account seven days after each sale.

The integration will be included in our Silver and Gold plans. For Gold Plan customers, there is no additional fee from us, and for Silver Plan customers we will charge a small additional fee to cover our development time and support costs. We won't know how much the fee is until more work is completed, but it's likely to be less than 3%.
